New York, USA, January 2004: I arrived in New York during a mid-winter blizzard. The city was still recovering from the devastating 911 attacks, just over two years prior. It was a pretty grim time to visit and the weather didn’t help- but it was business as usual on Wall Street…

R1
NZ, Feb 2012: Some images shot on the streets of Wellington back in February…
These are part of a series I’m going to call “twenty dollar camera”- because, you guessed it- they were made on a camera I purchased for around $20 or less.
The camera in question is a Ricoh R1. It’s light, low profile and has a nice sharp 30mm lens. They would have cost a packet when they first came out.
I’ve also adapted the 24mm panoramic lens to shoot “full-frame” which results in a nice, natural in built vignette.
These pictures are literally right off the film with no image manipulation. Film used was Kodak Tri-X (400 iso) hand developed in Ilford LC29.

Damascus
Damascus, Syria, November 2005: With the escalating crisis in Syria and it’s spiral into civil war, it’s about time I posted some more images from Syria in 2005… Of the seven countries I visited in my late 2005 Athens to Cairo overland trip- over half are now going through dramatic changes… Lebanon was once again nearly bombed back to the stone ages by Israel in July 2006; Greece is now bankrupt, its EU status in jeopardy; early last year (2011) heralded the “Arab Spring” and a popular Egyptian revolution; and over the past year Syria has disintegrated into civil war…
