Derry, Northern Ireland, 1999: The neighbourhood of “The Bogside” just outside the old city walls of Derry, has been the focus for many events of “The Troubles”. ‘The Battle of the Bogside” and “Bloody Sunday” in particular… Contrary to the norm in Ireland, I didn’t exactly recieve the warmest of welcomes- particularly while documenting the Bogside area. It was understandable though. The Good Friday agreement had just been signed and many in the Nationalist camp were totally opposed to the cease-fire. I didn’t hang around long, the bad vibes/jibes from the locals and the feeling of being constantly monitored by CTV camera’s got to me… Mamiya ZE/Mamiya Sekor 50mm f1.7
