Patea, Taranaki, NZ, March 2012: The abandoned riverside cool stores in Patea still stand- the only connection left of the former Patea Freezing Works. The nearby works closed in 1982 due to a “downturn” in the NZ meat processing industry. The closure created huge unemployment in the area, it’s effect still felt to this day. The freezing works were burnt down in mysterious circumstances in 2008 and finally demolished in 2010. I’ve made a short faux horror film documenting this foray into the site. It’s my first effort at a video so cut me some slack… Check it out here- if you dare… Vimeo Youtube

Really great shots! absolutely love ‘chiller11’
Thanks for that- definately going back to this place sooner rather than later…
I knew the guy who burnt it down, I went to school with him, wasn’t mysterious circumstances, he was just one of those misbehaving kids who turned out to be an arsonist
