Patea, Taranaki, NZ, March 2012: The abandoned riverside cool stores in Patea still stand- the only connection left of the former Patea Freezing Works. The nearby works closed in 1982 due to a “downturn” in the NZ meat processing industry. The closure created huge unemployment in the area, it’s effect still felt to this day. The freezing works were burnt down in mysterious circumstances in 2008 and finally demolished in 2010. I’ve made a short faux horror film documenting this foray into the site.
